Wastewater Plan Checks
What is a Plan Check?
A Plan Check is a review of drawings for building remodels or new construction by an engineering professional to ensure proper disposal of wastewater to the sanitary sewer.

When is a Plan Check Required?
Plan Checks may be required to obtain a building permit for remodels or new construction.

How do I schedule a Plan Check?
Call (408) 945-3000 to make an appointment. Appointments are required.

Where do I go for my Plan Check?

 Location: San José City Hall–7th Floor

 Parking: Available in the City Hall Parking Garage. Parking entrance is on 6th Street between East Santa Clara and San Fernando Streets. Parking validation is available at the front desk on the 7th Floor.
 Hours: Appointments are available Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Requirements for Food Service Establishments

City of San José Requirements:
  • Complete a Food Service Plan Check Questionnaire prior to your Plan Check appointment. Fill out all sections using current operating data or estimates based on similar types of businesses.

Requirements for Non-Food Service Establishments
  • All commercial or industrial sites from which wastewater is discharged to the sanitary sewer, from sources other than standard domestic sanitary facilities (e.g., toilets, bathroom sinks), are required to complete a Non-Food Service Plan Check Questionnaire prior to your Plan Check appointment. Fill out all sections using current operating data or estimates based on similar types of businesses.
