Tree Installation - Staking
Staking is a practice used to stabilize young trees and promote upward growth. Young trees that are grown in nurseries typically have small flexible trunks that can easily snap if not supported. Therefore, it is helpful to stake new trees for one to three years after planting. The recommended staking system generally consists of two parts: a metal or wooden post which gets installed into the ground and some type of tie that extends from the stake to the tree and back to the stake again to hold the tree in place. Adjustment or removal of the ties as the tree matures will prevent damage to the tree.
