Heritage Tree Profile - December

This month we have a Heritage Tree Profile that made the list as one of the City’s
trees of special significance within the urban canopy of San José due to being an uncommon species within our area. This Carya illinoinensis, or pecan, stands just south of San José State University at 483 S. 6th Street. This magnificent specimen is 85 feet tall, has a canopy width of 70 feet, and a circumference of 125.6 inches. With an annual growth rate of two to three feet, this tree is roughly 30-40 years old. As of November 27, 2018 this tree is the new California Big Tree Champion for this species. For more information about Pecan trees check out the Cal Poly SelecTree Website.
