  1. When Chicken Soup Isn't Enough: First Aid Skills for Teens

    When Chicken Soup Isn't Enough is part of the Life Skills Academy, a program series designed by the library exclusively for high school students planning on leaving for college or the work force. Come to King Library on Saturday, February 25, for a FREE 2-hour class on the most important basic first aid skills for young adults. The class will be taught by professional trainers from the Safety Center. Please Register for the class at: or call (408)808-2165. Include your name, age & contact information. Teens who attend seven workshops throughout the year will be recognized as "graduates" of the Life Skills Academy. For the current 2017 Life Skills Academy schedule, visit: Workshops will take place once a month from January through October 2017. Our Life Skills programs are built to target ages 14-­19, but all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.

    Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services is now accepting applications for the 2017 Safe Summer Initiative Grant (SSIG) - The Safe Summer Initiative offers grants to non-profit organizations, governmental entities, and faith-based organizations that provide safe programs and activities that encourage healthy play and nurture positive relationships. Emphasis is placed on services benefiting youth in Hot Spot areas (locations identified as experiencing the most gang activity and youth violence). Applicants must primarily serve San José youth. Applications will only be accepted online through WebGrants and are due by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017.   4. All-Access Sports Tournaments Coming Soon

Come out to the Bascom Community Center to show your support for all of our adapted sports at these upcoming competitions: Saturday, December 10, when the second power soccer tournament of the season will be hosted, and February 25–26, 2017, when the first wheelchair basketball tournament will be hosted with other local teams. Tournament schedules will be announced once the teams are finalized.
