The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ Volunteer Management Unit hosted over 175 volunteers for the first Community Volunteer Day at the Municipal Rose Garden on May 5. Volunteers spent three hours on basic landscaping tasks to prepare this iconic destination for Mother's Day – one of its busiest days of the year. The event emphasized “complete care” of every rose bush, which includes composting and removing invasive plants and dead flower heads. The next Community Volunteer Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 14. For more information, please contact Justin Long, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-793-5579.
