Baldwin R.O.C.K. Competes in the 2019 Tech Challenge

A team of fourth and fifth graders from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Baldwin Recreation of City Kids (R.O.C.K.) afterschool program competed in the 32nd annual Tech Challenge at the Tech Museum of Innovation on March 30 and 31. Team R.O.C.K. tested their device at the “No Roads, No Problem” challenge alongside 600 Bay Area teams. All teams built a hovercraft device that could maneuver over different terrain, including peg boards, carpet and sandpaper. Students designed, implemented and tested their device for several months. In the process, they enhanced their reflection and observation skills through journaling their progress. Their prototype and findings were presented to a panel of judges during the event. Team R.O.C.K. was supported by a three-year grant partnership with the Tech Museum’s Bower’s Institute of Innovation. For more information, contact Neil Rufino, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-353-3572.
