Alternative Fuels in Santa Clara County

Alternative fuels are fuels used for transportation that are substantially non-petroleum, domestically produced, and/or emit less greenhouse gases than conventional gasoline or diesel. The City of San José actively includes Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) as a part of its Green Fleet Policy, and is committed to strengthening our local fueling infrastructure to provide alternative choices to our local community and build a more sustainable future.

As more and more AFVs emerge in the marketplace, the City of San José encourages you to learn more about the benefits of these innovative technologies and examine your own driving needs and habits to determine if an AFV is a good fit for your commute. You can learn more about AFV technology and incentives at www.driveclean.ca.gov.

The Alternative Fueling Stations Map (PDF format, 1.2 MB) provides the locations of a variety of alternative fuels and charging stations available to the public. Within Santa Clara County, these fuels currently include: Electricity, Biodiesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Propane.
