City of San Jose Flexible Spending Account Benefits

The City of San Jose offers the following pretax programs, administered by FBMC Benefits Mangagement (FBMC), as convenient ways for City employees to apply pretax money toward unreimbursed medical, dental, vision or dependent care expenses.

Medical Reimbursement Account (MRA)

This program is designed to help pay for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses that are not covered by most medical plans, dental plans, or vision plans.

Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)

This program is designed to help pay for the cost of dependent care so that the participanting employee can go to work.

Benefits

By using a Medical Reimbursement Account (MRA) or the Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP), an individual's out of pocket expenses can be paid from a trust account funded with pretax payroll dollars. This can reduce the participating employee's taxable income, which can increase the amount of available income to save or spend.

Eligibility

All full-time and part-time benefited employees are eligible to enroll into one or both of the City’s Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
