MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR (3116)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in the supervision of crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers, parks, and public facilities. Performs related work as required.

   Ensuring the proper construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, parks, and public facilities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   This class differs from that of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter exercises lead direction over smaller numbers of personnel and crews and usually reports to an incumbent of this class. This class differs from that of Maintenance Superintendent in that the latter plans, organizes, and directs a major functional section normally including supervision of a number of Maintenance Supervisors.

Education

   Graduation from high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience

   Five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of streets, sewers, parks, and public facilities, including at least two years in a lead capacity at the level of Senior Maintenance Worker, Senior Tree Maintenance Leadworker, Senior Pump Maintenance Worker, or Senior Heavy Equipment Operator with the City of San Jose.

Acceptable Substitutions

   Cumulative "chitted up" experience from a lower class to lead capacity at the level of Senior Maintenance Worker, Senior Tree Maintenance Leadworker, Senior Pump Maintenance Worker, or Senior Heavy Equipment Operator with the City of San Jose may be substituted for the lead capacity experience on a year-for-year basis.
