CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general supervision, performs technical work of moderate difficulty in the installation, operation, maintenance, and minor repair of theater sound, light, and other equipment for use in a variety of theatrical events. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

• Sets up, operates, maintains, and repairs sound equipment for a variety of events and productions.
• Sets up, operates, maintains, and repairs lighting equipment for a variety of events and productions.
• Sets up, maintains, and repairs event telephone lines.
• Operates sound consoles in accordance with prearranged standards, plans, and oral and written instruction.
• Operates lighting consoles and related controls during performances.
• May provide lead direction to labor hands, show road crews, and other workers in the installation, operation, and dismantling of all on-stage house technical equipment.
• Ensures the safe use of all on-stage technical equipment.
• Maintains inventory of theatrical equipment such as sound cables, lights, and other objects.
• Keeps facilities and properties clean, in order, secure, and safe.
• May be required to perform shift work.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   This class differs from that of Senior Facility Attendant in that incumbents of this class operate highly technical sound and lighting consoles and other equipment during a variety of events and productions. Incumbents of this class are supervised by the Event and Technical Services Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
   Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of sound and lighting equipment utilized in a variety of theatrical events.
• Knowledge of safety precautions, codes, and regulations as they apply to theatrical events.
• Knowledge of hemp, counter-weight, and winch powered flying systems.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to operate complex sound and lighting systems for a variety of productions and events.
• Ability to maintain and repair sound and lighting systems.
• Ability to perform stage carpentry work such as building and dismantling stages and other objects.
• Ability to operate and maintain stage riggings, manipulate stage scenery and curtains, and secure line in fly gallery.

• Knowledge of principles and techniques of supervision.
• Ability to keep inventory of sound cables, lights, and other stage equipment.

Education
   Completion of high school.

Experience
   Two years of experience in the operation and maintenance of theater sound and light systems.
