LAND SURVEYOR (3875)

CLASS PURPOSE
   Under general direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, supervising, participating in and reviewing the activities of the City's survey section which is engaged in a variety of land surveying. Acts on behalf of the Director of Public Works on Land Surveying matters. Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (The position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

Typical End Results Include: Providing the necessary information to achieve the results required in the survey projects; providing direction and suggestions to survey crews on procedures to achieve desired results; ensuring that surveying work conforms to State legal and technical standards; achieving maximum production and efficiency of survey crews; determining surveying layout needs for construction projects; ensuring that valuable field notes are maintained in perpetuity for use in future projects and for use by the general public, engineering firms and other governmental agencies.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
   The incumbent of this single position class reports to a Principal Civil Engineer and supervises various surveying/engineering technical employees in  the performance of surveying duties. The incumbent provides expertise in a wide range of land surveying work dealing with preliminary surveying, boundary surveying, and construction surveying projects and makes judgments of a professional nature as defined by the State Land Surveyors Act.

Training and Experience
   Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering or successful completion of the Land Surveyor-in-Training (L.S.I.T.) or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certificates and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional land surveying experience including three (3) years of experience supervising one or more survey crews.

Licenses/Certificates
   Registration by the State of California allowing the practice of Land Survey in accordance with the Land Surveyor's Act.

Possession of a valid California driver's license.
