COMMUNITY COORDINATOR (6124)

 

CLASS PURPOSE

Under direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in targeted neighborhoods acting as a liaison for the City by working closely with the community, schools, community organizations, and public and private agencies in supporting and developing those activities and programs related to the City's Project Crackdown and associated activities. Performs related work as required.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Incumbents in this classification work directly with targeted communities to assist them in developing anti-drug programs and crime prevention programs and ensuring a safe environment through community involvement. This classification differs from the Recreation Superintendent classification in scope and responsibility and the former is supervised by the latter.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Competency Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education

Completion of two (2) years of course work at an accredited college or university, including courses in social science.

Experience

Three years of experience in work concerned with the improvement of inter-group relations, delinquency prevention, community welfare, social development, or community relations programs.

Acceptable Substitutions

None.

Licenses/Certificates

Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.
