  • Building plan submittals
    • The Preferred Method is our Drop Off Submittal Option. No appointment is required for this option. Projects may be dropped off between 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Development Services Assistance Desk located on the 1st floor of city hall.
    • If an appointment is desired, please call (408) 535-3555.  Due to the limited availability of appointments, be advised that the next available appointment may be a few weeks out.  We highly encourage the use of our Drop Off Submittal Option.

The mission of the Building Division is to oversee private construction for the purpose of protecting the safety of San José's citizens and facilitating the City's economic development objectives. This is accomplished through implementation of building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, zoning, engineering, energy, and accessibility codes and laws for construction of residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
