    September 3, 5:00 PM @ San Jose State Spartan Stadium

    Join CommUniverCity for SJSU's first game of the season! The pre-game celebration begins at 5:00pm and will include tailgating before the game. Game versus New Hampshire starts at 7:00pm. Free meal to the first First 500 fans! This includes you, your friends, your family, and even your co-workers! Show your Spartan Spirit, wear your CommUniverCity or San Jose State gear! This is a free public event.This community night is for you, your family, your neighbors and even your co-workers. Share it widely!   2. Santa Clara County 8th American Indian Heritage Celebration

    September 12, 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Santa Clara County Fairgrounds Pavilion Hall

    Join the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area, Amah Mutsun Tribal Band of Mission San José Bautista & Mission Santa Cruz, and the Ohlone Costanoan Esselen Nation of the Greater Monterey Bay Area for a day filled with culture, traditions, spirituality, living healthy and community! Lots of activities throughout the day, $2,000 in prize money for dance contest and a kids' fun zone from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Parking is $5.

  1. Coastal Cleanup Day

    September 19, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Numerous river and creek locations in Santa Clara County!

    Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants, sturdy shoes, gloves, and sunscreen. Please bring your own pick-up sticks. Youth under 18 need supervision and transportation to get to cleanup sites. Sign up to volunteer today!

  2. Composting Basics Workshop (in Spanish)

    September 22, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Sacred Heart Community Service

    Turn your grass, leaves and kitchen scraps into a wonderful soil amendment. Green waste and worm composting will be covered.





    Workshops are brought to you by the Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission of Santa Clara County and the City of San José. Funded by the cities and the County of Santa Clara.

    San José City Hall and other City offices will close for the holiday and reopen on Tuesday, September 8. The Police and Fire Departments, along with other critical City services, will remain unaffected by the closure.

  1. San José Housing Department Hosting Public Informational Meetings on Affordable Housing Impact Fee & Inclusionary Housing

    September 8, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM @ San José City Hall - Wing Room 120

    In light of the City Council's approval of an Affordable Housing Impact Fee (AHIF) in November 2014 and the California Supreme Court's decision regarding the Citywide Inclusionary Housing Ordinance (IH) in June 2015, the Housing Department will host several public informational meetings in August, September, and October. At these meetings, staff will: 1) provide information on the AHIF/IH Programs; (2) discuss timelines; (3) provide additional information on the AHIF Pipeline Exemption Application Process; and (4) review the anticipated roll-out process for the IH Ordinance.
