  1. Armed Forces Day – 5K/10K and Festival in the Park

    May 21, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM @ Lake Cunningham Regional Park

    The Veterans Supportive Services Agency (VSSA) presents a day of family fun in honor of Armed Forces Day. In the morning there will be a 5/10K run as well as a 1 mile walk, with award categories for each. After the race, at 10 a.m., the Festival in the Park will begin, offering live music, a kids' zone, local artists, food, and more. Run Pre-registration is required. Organizers are offering $5.00 off the registration price with the code "newsletter".

    The 5th Annual Summit on Entrepreneurship and Innovation brings together Silicon Valley business and city leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to encourage business growth in Silicon Valley. The event is timed to coincide with National Small Business Week. San Jose City Hall Rotunda will host Keynote speaker Maria Contreras- Sweet, 24th SBA Administrator and a member of President Obama’s Cabinet as part of a live-streaming national broadcast. The event will include workshops on Accessing Capital, Understanding Financials for Borrowing, and Using Technology and Social Media for your Business, with simultaneous translation in Spanish and Vietnamese.

    The Housing Department has scheduled an additional series of meetings to provide the most up-to-date information on the Affordable Housing Impact Fee (AHIF) Program, and Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, during the months of January through June 2016.   2. Gira de Libro Tour by Bicycle

    Registration is now open for the San José Public Library’s (SJPL) third annual bicycle tour, Gira de Libro Tour by Bicycle. The community is invited to safely ride with SJPL and enjoy the City of San José’s libraries and bikeways. The tour is a guided community and staff bicycle ride that will visit five of San Jose’s 24-branch libraries on Saturday, May 14th. Cyclists will meet at the Tully Community Branch Library at 9:00 a.m. and will visit four other branches before concluding the tour back at Tully Community Branch covering a total distance of 20.5 miles. Lunch will be provided at the Santa Teresa Branch Library; in addition, each library stop will include snacks, library tours, and activities.

  1. Municipal Rose Garden Volunteer Day!

    May 7, 8:45 AM - 12:00 PM @ Municipal Rose Garden

    Please join us for the first dead-heading of the year! The roses have bloomed in abundance and now we need to snip off those blooms to encourage the next cycle. There will also be a Rose Care Seminar for those that are interested in learning more about the care and growth of roses. Tools and Training provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes (no cloth shoes) and long sleeves. Dressing in layers works well for the morning time period. Please bring your own filled water bottle. No need to pre-register. Just come and help us keep the 3,500 roses blooming! We hope to see you there! Thank You!
