  1. 5th Annual African American Flag Raising Ceremony And Reception

    Please join Councilmembers Ash Kalra and Chappie Jones as they host San Jose City's 5th annual African American History Month Flag Raising Ceremony and Reception in partnership with the San Jose-Silicon Valley NAACP on February 5th, 2016. A light dinner will be provided by Jackie's Catering. The program will begin promptly at 5pm and reception will follow at 5:45pm. We hope that you can join us as we celebrate the rich impact the African American community has made in San Jose and beyond.

  2. Iris Chang Park Community Meeting 2

    February 9, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ 3rd Floor Yoga Room

    The City is preparing a master plan for Iris Chang Park, a new neighborhood park at the end of Epic Way off of River Oaks Parkway. Named in memory of Iris Chang, a former San José resident and world-renown author, the City wants to engage the community in providing suggestions for amenities to be included as the Iris Chang Park Master Plan is developed. A second community workshop to review draft landscape designs and provide input on the public artists conceptual design proposal for the project will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in the 3rd floor yoga room at 680 Epic Way, San Jose, CA 95134.   1. Downtown Ice 2015/2016

    December 1, 2015 - February 7, 2016 @ Circle of Palms .

    For the sixth consecutive year, the San José Downtown Association and their partners, Kristi Yamaguchi's Always Dream Foundation and Hawaiian Airlines, will be hosting the South Bay's largest outdoor skating rink through the holiday season. People of all ages are welcome to experience the outdoor skating rink at the Circle of Palms between the Fairmont Hotel and San Jose Museum of Art.

  2. City of San José Career Fair

    February 27, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ San José City Hall Rotunda

    The City of San José will be recruiting for a wide range of positions, including sworn (police and fire), professional, trades, managerial, and administrative. The specific positions will depend on our available openings at the time in February. Applicants will have the opportunity to meet with HR staff and hiring managers from many City departments.

  2. Housing Department Hosting Public Informational Meetings on Affordable Housing Impact Fee & Inclusionary Housing

    The Housing Department has scheduled an additional series of meetings to provide the most up-to-date information on the Affordable Housing Impact Fee (AHIF) Program, and Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, during the months of January through June 2016. These meetings will include specific information on how developers may apply for the pipeline exemption.

    One of downtown’s most beloved winter traditions, Hawaiian Airlines Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice, opens for an extended season of skating under the palms, starting 5 p.m. Friday, November 13 through Sunday, February 7.

    The City of San José is among the many proud sponsors of Downtown Ice.

  4. Super Community Event: Super Guadalupe River Run

    Kick off the Big Game in San José with the Super Guadalupe River Run! Don't fumble the opportunity to burn some calories. Whether you go long for 6.2 miles, run a 3.1 mile buttonhook, or tackle the kids' 1K quarterback sneak, you'll earn your guacamole on the Guadalupe.

    The Super Guadalupe River Run benefits the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that promotes the development and active use of San José's central park. The 10K and 5K courses will make use of the park's trails.

  5. Super Community Event: Downtown Ice

    Guests can enjoy ice skating under the palm trees throughout Super Bowl week. Downtown Ice will be open from November 13, 2015 through Super Bowl Sunday, February 7, 2016.

  6. Community Budget Priority Setting Session

    Community Budget Priority Setting Session - Building the Budget From Zero

    Residents throughout San José will have the opportunity to discuss and provide input on priorities for the 2016-2017 Budget. During the session, residents can also participate in a "Zero-Based" budgeting exercise designed around programs and services that impact our neighborhoods.

    In addition, this year's session is expanded and open to all San José residents age 12 and up who want to participate (800 person capacity.) Translation services will be available at the event.

  7. Public Meetings: General Plan 4-Year Review

    February 25, 6:30 PM

    Monthly meetings are planned through April to discuss progress on implementation of the City’s Envision 2040 General Plan and to consider whether mid-course adjustments are needed.

    The meetings will be held at San José City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., in Wing Rooms 118-120, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The remaining meetings are scheduled on February 25, March 24, and April 7.

    From Friday, January 29 through Sunday February 7, 2016 between noon and 10:00 p.m., San Jose’s historic downtown park will transform into an interactive experience for all ages. Featuring illuminating artwork, live music, beer garden, outdoor café and food truck, mini sports field, informal games and competitions for all ages, Plaza de Cesar Chavez is a special place to touch down and hang out with locals and visitors alike. Park activation and improvements are funded in part by Adobe Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, designed by Groundswell Design Group, and produced by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services. The project includes permanent improvements to the park such as lighting, new resources for the park such as flexible furniture, as well as short-term demonstrations of potential future improvements, such as the café/beer garden.
