San
José Permit Center to Be Closed Friday July
13 San José, California
–On
Friday July 13, the City of San José Building Permit Center will be
closed to the public for one day, so that City staff can receive
training on the new software that will be used to process and issue
building permits. The
closure is also necessary to transfer data from the old permit system to
the new system. The Permit Center will reopen on Monday, July 16, with
staff using the new permit software in full production. The
new permit software is part of the “San Jose Permits Online”
project. Ultimately, all
departments that process development permits will utilize the new permit
software. The new software
will replace nine existing stand-alone databases with an integrated,
relational database system. The
new system will enable customers to track the progress of their
development project from inception to completion, as it works its way
through City departments. The
July 16 software implementation incorporates integration of the new
permit software with the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS)
and Document Management Systems.
San Jose is the first large city to successfully integrate these
three systems. This
integration will make it possible for residents to obtain all public
information on a property or development project via the Internet.
The Internet component of the “San Jose Permits On-line Project
is scheduled for implementation by year’s end. ####
