Background:
Planning for this $16 million dollar facility began in 1999 to replace
animal shelter services previously provided to South Bay cities by the
Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley. The 43,500 square-foot complex is
scheduled for completion in September 2003.
Once opened, the state-of-the-art shelter will be one of the largest
in the United States. Over 20,000 animals are expected to come through
its doors each year. The new Animal Care Center will feature progressive
adoption and education services and will eventually include a low-cost
spay and neuter clinic.
