Background:
As part of this year's Earth Day celebration, the City of San Jose will launch its Anti-Litter Campaign. Neighborhood volunteers will meet at ten locations throughout the community and fan out to collect litter in their areas. For more information, call (408) 277-2270.

The San José anti-litter campaign will build on the city's successful anti-graffiti program. Over the past three years, there has been a 92 percent reduction in graffiti in San José as a result of aggressive cleanup, law enforcement, interagency cooperation, and strong neighborhood volunteer commitment.

Mayor Gonzales has called for a similar approach for anti-litter efforts, including partnerships with other agencies including: Caltrans, VTA, Santa Clara County, Santa Clara Valley Water District, GreenTeam of San Jose, Norcal of San Jose, Mercury News, Time Media Inc., KLIV, Conservation Corps, Pray South Bay, and other neighborhood associations, schools, community organizations, and businesses.
