Status Report on San José Response to Terrorism

San José, California – In response to today’s terrorist attack San José police are at an elevated level of security throughout the city.  As a precautionary measure, we have established as a visible police presence in various public facilities around the City.

The City of San José’s Emergency Operations Center is open at level 1 allow for a coordinated monitoring of the situation locally.  San José International Airport is at a heightened level of security to manage operations.  All outbound flights have been cancelled and there is an indefinite hold on air travel.  The inbound flight from Taipei, which was already in the air, landed as usual at 9:38 this morning as did the 10:35 am flight from Tokyo.  However, the daily Paris flight has been diverted to Calgary, Canada and is expected to land there at 4:35 pacific time this afternoon.  Airport personnel are working with the airlines and the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau to accommodate any stranded passengers.

At this time, most other City operations are continuing normally.  However, the Mayor has cancelled both the afternoon and evening City Council meetings scheduled for today.  Our major facilities have on-site police officers, and we have additional personnel at the airport to handle the passengers, traffic, and security.
