San Jose City Hall, 801 North First Street, Room 436, San Jose, CA 95110 (408)277-5131For Immediate Release Thursday April 20, 2000 Contact: Tom Manheim (408) 277-5131 San José City Council Goes LiveSan José, CA - San José residents can tune in to watch live coverage of San José City Council meetings starting next Tuesday, April 25th. That’s when the City begins telecasting Council meetings live on the City’s cable channel 37A and streaming audio coverage of the meetings on the City’s website. San José CivicCenter Television, as the City’s government access channel is called, will televise meetings live on Tuesdays, and will replay the meetings on Thursdays and Saturdays.
In addition to meeting coverage, Channel 37A will provide information about various City services and special events, and can be used to provide emergency information to the community when disasters strike. The San José City Council meets every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. In addition, on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, the Council holds evening meetings, which begin at 7 p.m. San José CivicCenter Television will provide live coverage of all meetings and will replay each week’s meetings starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Along with the premiere of televised City Council coverage, the City is introducing audio streaming as another way to make government more accessible to our residents. Internet users can tune in and listen live to City Council meetings by visiting the City’s home page, www.ci.san-jose.ca.us, and clicking on the "Listen to Council Meetings" link. There, website visitors will find an explanation of what they need on their own computer systems to listen to the meetings, as well as a link to a free download for Media Player, the software that allows audio streaming. These changes provide a great opportunity for San José residents to see government in action and to learn more about the local issues that matter to them. In addition to Council meeting coverage, Channel 37A will operate a video Bulletin Board system, where viewers will find meeting schedules and important information about City services and special events. # # # # # # #Back to top |
