U.S. Census Bureau recognizes
San José’s position in region

SAN JOSE, CA –

Mayor Gonzales and the people of San José have long known what the U.S. Census Bureau just confirmed: San José is the Capital of Silicon Valley and what almost one million neighbors call home.

“No matter how big or small we are, San José is a city of great people and great neighborhoods,” said Mayor Ron Gonzales upon learning that the US Census Bureau has renamed its classification of reference for the Bay Area to the San José-San Francisco-Oakland metropolitan area.

“We are pleased to receive this recognition by the Census Bureau, as we continue to work hard to be a city and community that people are proud to live, work, and play in San José. Each of the three major cities of the metropolitan area are distinct communities, and we are delighted that San José is the city of choice,” Gonzales continued.

As the capitol of Silicon Valley San José is the 11th largest city in the Country and the 3rd largest in the State of California. San José is also considered the “Safest big city in America” as ranked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
