San José
Continues Discount Parking for
Seniors, Veterans, and Disabled
San José, CA ---- Seniors, veterans, and the disabled will continue to be able to park at discount at four San José regional parks as a result of the City Council's approval to extend a pilot program for another year.
San José City Council approved the parking discount last year as
a pilot to determine usage and impact on residents and parks and extended
it at its meeting today (November 18).
"We have great regional parks, and we want to make sure they are accessible to residents who may have difficulty or who have paid their dues to our community," said San José Mayor Ron Gonzales. "They are one of our best-kept secrets, and we want residents to use them and be proud of them."
The four parks involved in the discount program are Alum Rock Park,
Almaden Lake Park, Kelley Park, and Lake Cunningham Park. These are the
only parks where San José charges a parking fee.
Of the Bay Area park agencies that collect parking fees, the San José
is the only one to provide a parking discount for seniors veterans and
the disabled. The discount is a three-dollar reduction from the standard
parking rate of five dollars. Over the last year, 9,000 seniors, veterans
and disabled residents have taken advantage of the pilot program.
"In the next several years, we will be investing in our regional and
neighborhood parks to ensure they continue to be great places to visit,"
said Sara Hensley, San Jose Director of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood
Services. "We are delighted to invite seniors, veterans, and disabled
residents to enjoy them." |
