Frank E. Kirkbride
Joins Mineta San José International Airport
as Assistant Director of Aviation
San José, CA -- After a nationwide search, Frank E. Kirkbride
has joined Mineta San Jose International Airport as Assistant Director
of Aviation. The post became vacant in June, after the retirement of Bill
Potter, who has held the position since 1999.
As Assistant Director, Mr. Kirkbride is an integral member of the Airport’s
senior management team and is responsible for day-to-day Airport operations,
reporting directly to Ralph G. Tonseth, Director of Aviation. He oversees five Division Deputy
Directors, and plays a primary role as liaison to regulatory agencies, including
the FAA, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs Service; and Airport tenants,
including airlines, car rental agencies and fixed base operators. The Assistant
Director also is primarily responsible for the internal development and preparation of
long range studies, recommends changes to Airport policies and procedures,
and has primary responsibility for monitoring the Airport’s Master
Plan.
“Operating a safe and secure facility today, while we design a
world class airport for tomorrow presents tremendous opportunities,” said Director of
Aviation Ralph Tonseth. “Frank’s extensive background in airport management, and his
credentials in aviation make him well suited to assume this critical position.”
Mr. Kirkbride most recently held the position of Vice President of Planning,
Design and Construction for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, which
includes Nashville International Airport and the John C. Tune General Aviation
Airport. He first came to the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority as Vice President
of Facilities, Engineering and Maintenance in 1988.
Mr. Kirkbride holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
from Rutgers University. He was also named a Distinguished Graduate of the
Federal Aviation Administration Management Training School of Cameron
University in Oklahoma. He served as a Civil Engineer with the Federal Aviation Administration,
Airway Facilities Division, and at Dulles International Airport in Washington,
D.C. He subsequently served as Assistant Manager of the Engineering and Maintenance Division at Dulles International Airport, and then managed the Engineering and Maintenance Division at Ronald Reagan National Airport, before joining the staff at the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.
The Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport is owned and
operated by the City of San José.
