Public Meetings for New City Council District Boundaries

San José, California – The City of San José announced today (March 19, 2001) that the 2001 Redistricting Advisory Commission is seeking public input to assist the Commission in developing recommendations for new city council district boundaries. The Commission wants to hear from the public to ensure that community interests are considered as the City prepares recommendations for new council district boundaries. Recommendations will be presented to the City Council later this year. The Redistricting Advisory Commission has scheduled the following community meetings:

7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 21st
San José City Hall, Room 106
801 North First Street

7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, April 25th
Silver Creek High School
Student Activities Center, Room M2
3434 Silver Creek Road

7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, May 9th
Willows Senior Center
2175 Lincoln Avenue

Every 10 years after the Census figures are released, the City establishes new boundaries for each council district, to ensure equal representation for all San Jose citizens. The 2001 Redistricting Advisory Commission will make recommendations on the formation of new boundaries for San Jose city council districts based on the 2000 U. S. Census.

The boundaries will determine which city council district represents each resident. The public can participate in the establishment of new City council district boundaries by attending one of these meetings. For more information about these meetings or redistricting, contact the San José City Clerk’s Office at (408) 277-4424. Information about the redistricting process will also be available on the City of San José website at: http://www.ci.san-jose.ca.us./redistricting
