The Council of the City of San Jose convened in Adjourned Regular Session at 7:05 p.m. for a Public Hearing on the Final Proposed Budget Modifications for Fiscal Year 2001-02, in Council Chambers at City Hall.

 

Present: Council Members:          Campos, Chavez, Cortesé, Dando, Diquisto, LeZotte, Reed, Shirakawa Jr., Williams, Yeager; Gonzales

Absent: Council Members:           None.

 

PUBLIC HEARINGS

 

11.1     PUBLIC HEARING on the Final Proposed Budget Modifications.

Documents Filed: Letter from Patricia Brown Moriarty, Chairperson San José Senior Citizens Commission, dated June 11, 2001, expressing the Commission’s appreciation for Council support of services for older persons.

 

Discussion/Action: Mayor Gonzales opened the public hearing for the purpose of accepting public testimony on the Budget. He stated Council action on the Proposed Budgets is scheduled for June 12, 2001. Approximately 30 individuals, including the following, addressed Council on specific aspects of the Budget, requested funding for certain programs, and on the necessity for a study to “Save the San José Medical Center”: Amy Glad, Homebuilders Association; Renee Hazarian, Hammer Montessori School; Vicki Tindel, The Foundation; Jon Kawanda; Karita Hummer, St. Joseph Cathedral Social Justice Committee, and San José Medical Center; Patricia Brown Moriarty, San José Senior Citizens Commission; Patricia Eaton; Bart Fisher; Jean Suyenaga, San José Medical Center Coalition; Art Traagott, San José Medical Center Coalition; Shelly Davis & Chris Parsons, Oster Elementary School; Linda Jofuku, Executive Director of Yu Ai Kai; Neil Struthers, Executive Director, Santa Clara-San Benito Counties Building & Construction Trades Council; Lucy Geever; William O’Connell, Campus Community Association; Don Gaillardia, Northside Neighborhood Association; Lurdes Rivera Murphy, Alviso Community; Bud Courtney; Marvin Christy, McLaughlin Neighborhood Association; the Reverend Lindi Ramsden, First Unitarian Church of San José, San José Medical Center; Ben Menor, Filipino-American Opportunities Development Council, Inc.; Mike Gibeau, Safety Director, East Side School District; Christi Welter, San José Medical Center Coalition; Tina Pavon; Alviso Community Center; Gary L. Wood, San José Medical Center Coalition; Jill Escher, Walk San José; Lonnie Gross, Alviso Community Center; Rosylin Dean, San José Medical Center Coalition; and the Reverend Larry Burroughs, First Presbyterian Church of San José. Upon motion unanimously carried, the public hearing on the Budget Modifications was closed and the final action on the Fiscal Year 2001-02 Proposed Capital and Operating Budgets and the Fiscal Year 2002-06 Capital Improvement Program Budget to be taken by the City Council on June 12, 2001 at 1:30 p.m., Council Chambers, City Hall.
