SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE AND FUNDING SOURCES RESOLUTION AMENDMENTS IN THE SERVICES FOR REDEVELOPMENT CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND (CITY-SIDE REDEVELOPMENT FUND) WITH A NET IMPACT TO THE FUND OF $132,365

Council District: City-wide

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council approve the following Appropriation Ordinance and Funding Sources Resolution amendments in the Services for Redevelopment Capital Projects Fund (City-side Redevelopment Fund):

1.      Establish an appropriation for the Fox California Theatre Study project in the amount of $31,900.

2.      Establish an appropriation for the Automatic Public Toilets project in the amount of $100,466.

3.      Increase the estimate for Earned Revenue by $132,365.

BACKGROUND

The Redevelopment Agency has requested City services in the implementation of Agency projects.  These proposed amendments are necessary to account for City-side expenditures on Redevelopment Agency projects.

ANALYSIS

The Fox California Theatre project would provide the design for the conversion of 1920’s movie palace into a performing arts facility with utilization by a vast array of performing organizations.  This facility would also accommodate the presentation of classic and contemporary film and activities connected with the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.  This assortment of very different uses poses design and programming/scheduling challenges.  Therefore, a more focused consultant study is now needed.

The Automatic Public Toilets project will provide for seven automatic toilets in the Downtown area.  The project includes the installation of a prefabricated, automatic, self-cleaning public toilet, all utility connections and repair/replacement of street and granite paving.

The source of funding for these services and improvements would be a transfer from the Redevelopment Agency.
