Report on bids
and award of contract for Greystone Park Renovation Project to the low bidder,
and approval of a seven percent contingency.
CEQA: Exempt.
BACKGROUND
Greystone Park is an existing neighborhood park located on Camden Avenue and Mt. Carmel Drive. The park is bounded on the north by Camden Avenue, on the northwest by Mt. Carmel Drive, on the west by Trinidad Drive, on the south by the Almaden Country School ballfield and on the east by a residential area (map attached). This park is identified in the City Parks Bond Measure that passed in November 2000 which provides funding for the renovation of park play areas and restrooms in neighborhood parks.
This project will renovate the two play areas and install a new modular restroom that will serve the park as well as the adjacent ballfield users.
The base bid scope of work includes expansion of the youth play area, replacement of the existing play equipment and resilient surfacing material in both the youth and tot lot play areas, a new modular restroom building, installation of new benches, lighting, planting, irrigation and concrete walkways.

Funding for this project is provided by the City Parks Bond Measure and the Mayor’s Budget Message. The Bond measure will fund the renovation of the youth and tot lot play areas. Funding from the Mayor’s Budget Message will provide for the new restroom and other site furnishings and amenities.
.ANALYSIS
A supplemental memorandum will be submitted after the bid opening on September 6, 2001.
A seven percent contingency is requested for any unforeseen conditions which may arise during construction on this project.
This proposed project was listed on the City’s Internet bid line and advertised in the San José Mercury News and San José Post Record. Bid packages for all Department of Public Works construction projects are routinely provided to a standard list of various contractor organizations, builder’s exchanges and disadvantaged business organizations, including United Minority Business Enterprises and the San José Minority Business Development Center.
This proposed project was coordinated with the Offices of the City Attorney, Risk Manager and Equality Assurance; and the Departments of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement, General Services, and Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.
