Subject:  OPERATING AGREEMENT & LICENSE WITH AIR CANADA

RECOMMENDATION

Approval of an Airline Operating Agreement and License with Air Canada for the period July 1, 2001, through November 30, 2007, with projected annual revenue to the City in the amount of $660,000.

 

BACKGROUND

Air Canada began scheduled passenger operations at San Jose International Airport on July 1, 1998. Air Canada currently operates 5 flights per week to Ottawa, Canada and 7 daily flights to Toronto, Canada.  Air Canada operates in space leased by United Airlines, pursuant to the terms of a separate agreement between Air Canada and United Airlines.  The term of the current Airline Operating Agreement and License expires on June 30, 2001.

 

ANALYSIS

The Director of Aviation executed the original Airline Operating Agreement and License with Air Canada.   Municipal Code 25.08 requires Council approval for the renewal of existing airline agreements or for airline agreements for a term of more than three (3) years.
