Subject: APPROVAL OF AN AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE SILICON VALLEY FOOTBALL CLASSIC BOWL GAME

RECOMMENDATION

Approval of a grant agreement with Silicon Valley Football Classic, Inc., to provide support to the Silicon Valley Football Classic bowl game, in the amount of $150,000.

BACKGROUND

Silicon Valley Football Classic, Inc. is responsible for managing the Silicon Valley Bowl football game, which was first held December 31, 2000. The City provided support for the inaugural game through a cash award of $7,500 for the purchase of 250 youth tickets, and provided other in-kind services and payments... Under a separate grant agreement, the City awarded a grant award to the San Jose Sports Authority in the amount of $58,500 to help defray the costs associated with the 2000 bowl game.

On June 19, the Council approved increasing the existing Citywide appropriation for the Silicon Valley Football Classic by $150,000, in order to accommodate the grant agreement recommended in this memorandum.

ANALYSIS

This action completes the City’s obligation to help support the new annual Silicon Valley Bowl. The agreement will assist Silicon Valley Football Classic, Inc. to defray costs from the 2000 game and to prepare for the 2001 game.
