| DUTIES
: The work2future Board provides
strategic planning, policy development and oversight of the
local workforce investment systems; approves the disbursement
of funds; and oversees and coordinates youth activities through
the Youth Council. Its mission is to respond to business needs,
and prepare job seekers for full time unsubsidized employment.
RELATIONSHIPS :
The City serves as fiscal and administrative agent
and provides funding for sufficient legal, administrative,
clerical and technical support, as well as a Director. Members
are appointed by the CLEO (Chief Local Elected Official),
the Mayor. The CLEO also ensures that the membership reflects
the approved structure outlined in the Workforce Investment
Act of 1998 requiring establishment of a Local Workforce Investment
Board (WIB). The Board was established in the City of San
Jose in 2000.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Board membership reflects local businesses and includes
a majority representation (51%) of local businesses and also
includes representatives from labor organizations; community
based organizations; local education agencies; economic development
agencies and One Stop Partners.
MEETINGS : The
Board meets quarterly on the 3rd Thursday of the month at
the Board Room of the San Jose One Stop located at 1290 Parkmoor
Avenue, San Jose. In addition, there are four (4) sub committees
- the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee, the Operations
Committee, and the Youth Council - who meet regularly.
BENEFITS : There
is no compensation for Board or sub committee members.
APPOINTMENT PROCESS :
Nominations for Board members are submitted by Executive Director
to the CLEO and approved by the Mayor and City Council.
ATTENDANCE :
Board members are expected to attend all meetings.
The Bylaws allow for the termination of a Board member due
lacking of attendance at three (3) consecutive meetings during
the term of service (July 1 - June 30) or for cause.
