(3M) FOR A LIBRARY CUSTOMER SELF-SERVICE CHECKOUT SYSTEM
Adoption of a resolution authorizing the Director of General Services to execute a first amendment to the agreement with Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) for the purchase of six (6) additional selfcheck systems at a total cost of $146,910.00, including tax and installation.
BACKGROUND
On April 11, 2000, the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the Director of General Services to execute an agreement with the 3M Company for the purchase of a library customer self-service checkout system, in the amount of $481,712.50. The award was based on a Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
The library customer self-service checkout system consisted of twenty (20) self-check machines supplied by 3M. The system allows the patron to check out library materials unassisted. The items are placed on the checkout machine, scanned and charged to the patron’s account.
ANALYSIS
Over 7,000,000 items were checked out from the 18 library facilities and bookmobile during fiscal year 1999-2000. Circulation continues to increase annually, with over a fifty-percent increase in usage over the past five years.
These additional six selfcheck systems will be placed in various branch libraries. The total cost is $146,910.00, including tax and installation.
