RECOMMENDATION

 

Report on bids and award of contract for The Alameda at Cleaves Improvements Project to the low bidder, Bellicitti & Pelliccitti Construction, in the amount of $251,600, and approval of a contingency in the amount of $25,000.  CEQA: Exempt

 

BACKGROUND

 

The San José Redevelopment Agency (SJRA) has requested the Department of Public Works to demolish a house and construct a new parking lot at The Alameda at Cleaves Avenue.  The scope of the project includes demolition, soil grading, and installation of new asphalt and concrete paving, electroliers, landscaping and irrigation.

The low bid submitted by Bellicitti & Pellicciotti is 32 percent Higher than the Engineer’s Estimate.  Staff attributes these bids to the “small job” nature of this project, and considers this to be a reasonable price for the construction of this project. 

 

A contingency in the amount of $25,000 is requested for any unforeseen conditions which may arise during construction of this project.

 

PUBLIC OUTREACH

 

This proposed project was listed on the City’s Internet Bid Line and advertised in the San Jose Mercury News and San Jose Post Record.  Bid packages for all Department of Public Works construction projects are routinely provided to a standard list of various contractor organizations, builder’s exchanges, and disadvantaged business organizations, including United Minority Business Enterprises and the San José Minority Business Development Center.

 

COORDINATION

 

This proposed project has been coordinated with the Redevelopment Agency, Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Department, and the Offices of the City Attorney, Budget, Risk Manager, and Equality Assurance.

*$44,000 was transferred for this project in 2000-2001 FY with PSM#236.  $316,000 has been transferred by SJRA with Second Amendment to PSM#236 and the appropriation amendment was adopted by City Council on September 25, 2001.
