RECOMMENDATION

Following the November 24, 2003 employee election to nominate candidates, Council should make the following appointments:

BACKGROUND

The Office of the City Clerk conducts employee elections to nominate candidates to the City Council for appointment to the three above-named boards and commissions.  All ballots for the current election are due in the Office of the City Clerk by 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 2003.  Ballots will be opened and counted immediately after the 2:00 p.m. deadline.  As soon as the election results are known, I will prepare a supplemental memorandum listing the results for your consideration.

ANALYSIS

The purpose of the employee election is to nominate candidates to the City Council to be considered for appointment to the vacancies noted above.  However, the appointment of individuals to serve on these particular boards and commissions is within the discretion of the City Council, therefore, the Council is not required to appoint the candidates who receive the highest number of votes.
