Pursuant to Section 1100 of the “City of San Jose Election Procedure Governing Elections Conducted Among Officers and Employees” I hereby certify that the following is the result of the employee election held November 26, 2001 to nominate candidates to the City Council for: 1) one 4 year term for an employee/member on the Board of Administration of the Federated City Employees Retirement System; 2) one 4 year term for a Police Department employee/ member on the Board of Administration of the Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan; 3) one 4 year term on the Civil Service Commission; and 4) three 2 year terms for two employee representatives and one employee alternate on the Suggestion Award Commission.

RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. Board of Administration, Federated City Employees Retirement System:
S.J.M.C. §2.08.1040 requires employee/retirement system members to recommend to Council one such employee for appointment to the Board. Three employees ran in this election; one was an incumbent.
Appoint an employee to the Federated City Employees Retirement Board to
a term which expires November 30, 2005 .
2. Board of Administration, Police and Fire Department Retirement Plan:
S.J.M.C. §2.08.1245B requires employee/retirement system members to recommend to Council one such Police Department employee for appointment to the Board. Two employees ran in this election; one was an incumbent.
Appoint a Police employee to the Police and Fire Retirement Board to a
term which expires November 30, 2005.
3. Civil Service Commission:
City Charter §1001(b) states “The names of three (3) persons receiving the highest number of votes at any such election shall be referred to the Council, and the Council, without consideration of the number of votes received by each, shall appoint to such office the one of the three whom it believes is best qualified for such office.” In this election the current incumbent ran unopposed for a second term.
Appoint a candidate to a term which expires November 30, 2005.
4. Suggestion Award Commission:
S.J.M.C. §2.08.4450B requires that the candidates who are recommended to Council be the employees receiving the first, second and third highest number of votes. There are vacancies on the Commission for two employees and one alternate employee who would serve in the absence of either employee representative. Only two employees ran in this election; one was an incumbent.
Appoint two employees and an alternate employee to the Suggestion Award
Commission to terms which expire November 30, 2003.
Employees who are recommended to be representatives on City Boards and Commissions by election are subject to discretionary appointment by the City Council.
