RECOMMENDATION
Report on bids
and award of contract for the Evergreen Park and Fernish Park Play Area
Renovation Projects to the low bidder, and approval of a ten percent
contingency. CEQA: Exempt.
BACKGROUND
Evergreen and Fernish Parks are existing neighborhood parks in Council District 8. Evergreen Park is located at the intersection of Yerba Buena Road and San Felipe Road, and Fernish Park is located at the intersection of Rubion Drive and Fernish Drive. Both parks are identified in the City Parks Bond Measure that passed in November 2000. This project will renovate a play area at each park. It will also construct a new modular restroom at Evergreen Park.
Funding for this project is provided by the City Parks Bond Measure, Parks Trust Fund, and the General Fund (capital improvements). The Bond measure will fund the renovation of the play area and restroom at Evergreen Park and renovation of the play area at Fernish Park. Funding from the General Fund will provide for the new concrete pathway at Fernish Park. Funding from the Park Trust Fund will provide for lighting, minor irrigation improvements, and miscellaneous improvements at Fernish Park.
A supplemental memorandum will be submitted after the bid opening on November 29, 2001.
A ten percent contingency is requested for any unforeseen conditions which may arise during construction this project.
This proposed project was listed on the City’s Internet bid line and advertised in the San Jose Mercury News and San Jose Post Record. Bid packages for all Department of Public Works construction projects are routinely provided to a standard list of various contractor organizations, builder’s exchanges and disadvantaged business organizations, including United Minority Business Enterprises and the San José Minority Business Development Center.
This proposed project was coordinated with the Offices of the City Attorney, Risk Manager and Equality Assurance; and the Departments of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement, General Services, and Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.
