RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution authorizing the
City Attorney to negotiate and execute an amendment to the agreement for legal
services with Robinson & Wood, Inc., to modify the scope of services and to
extend the term of the agreement through December 31, 2002, at no additional
cost to the City.
Background
On June 23, 1997, the City Attorney’s Office entered into
an agreement with Robinson & Wood, Inc. as independent counsel to handle a
case in which the Office had a conflict.
In June and December of 1998 and April of 2000, the agreement was
amended to increase the compensation to a total amount not to exceed $350,000,
and continue the term through December 31, 2001.
The case for which Robinson &
Wood, Inc. was providing legal services as conflicts counsel under the original
agreement has concluded. However, cases
in which the City Attorney’s Office has a conflict will continue to arise on
occasion. We are requesting
authorization for the City Attorney to negotiate and execute an amendment to
the amended and continued agreement with Robinson & Wood, Inc. for legal services
in cases in which the Office has a conflict, to modify the scope of services to
include legal services on other cases, and to extend the term of the amended
and continued agreement through December 31, 2002 at no additional cost to the
City.
