RECOMMENDATION

 

Report on bids and award of contract for the Conventions, Arts and Entertainment – Door Hardware Package Project to the low bidder.  CEQA:  Exempt.

 

BACKGROUND

 

The Conventions, Arts and Entertainment Department (CAE) requested the Public Works Department to develop a project to repair and/or replace the door hardware for maintenance and improved ADA accessibility purposes at several CAE facilities.

 

The CAE facilities included in this package are the Center for the Performing Arts, Parkside Hall and the Civic Auditorium Complex. The majority of the work involves replacement of panic hardware and pivots, while several doors will have motorized openers added for ADA accessibility.

 

ANALYSIS

 

A supplemental memo will be forthcoming after bid opening on May 31, 2001.

 

PUBLIC OUTREACH

 

This proposed project was listed on the City’s Internet Bid Line and advertised in the San José Mercury News and San José Post Record.  Bid packages for all Department of Public Works construction projects are routinely provided to a standard list of various contractor organizations, builder’s exchanges and disadvantaged business organizations, including United Minority Business Enterprises and the San José Minority Business Development Center.

 

COORDINATION

 

This proposed project has been coordinated with the Department of Conventions, Arts and Entertainment and the Offices of the City Attorney, Risk Manager and Equality Assurance.
