WHEREAS: Edith Keep has dedicated her life to the lives of children, and she has taught our children with devotion and excellence for twenty years; and
WHEREAS: Five days a week, Ms. Keep leaves her home at Senior Resident Le Mirador at 5:45 each morning to take three busses and travel for over an hour to reach the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter where she teaches and guides children; and
WHEREAS: Through her nurturing love, Ms. Keep welcomes and comforts children who are new arrivals at the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter where she acts as mentor and "grandma" for children in need of caring attention; and
WHEREAS: Edith Keep helps each child grow a garden and teaches them about the values of caring and giving;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Gonzales, Mayor of San José, together with Councilmembers Nancy Pyle and along with our colleagues on the City Council, on this 9th day of February 2005, do hereby recognize and commend
EDITH KEEP
with the annual San Jose Good Neighbor Award, presented at the 2005 State of the City Address, for her commitment to serving the needs of children at the Santa Clara County Children's Shelter.
