In 2005, Nancy began her first term on the San Jose City Council as the representative for District 10. A retired teacher of 25 years and a former Community College Board Trustee, Nancy represents more than 89,000 residents from Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley.
As District 10's City Councilmember, Nancy takes an innovative approach to solving today's challenges through creativity and collaboration. She has focused city government on the basics, maintaining our streets and parks, keeping our neighborhoods safe, investing resources in youth and senior programs and making city government more accountable.
Councilmember Pyle is the Chair of both the Community and Economic Development Committee and the Santa Clara County Emergency Preparedness Council. She also serves on the Neighborhood Services and Education Committee and is the liaison to the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Disability Advisory Commission.
Deeply connected to her community, Nancy has also served on the San Jose Small Business Commission, and the boards for Notre Dame High School, the YWCA, and the Almaden Valley Community Association. When Nancy was elected to the San Jose/Evergreen College District Board of Trustees, she discovered the buildings were in dire need of repair—with only one other college campus in worse condition. Determined to improve the college educational experience for students, Nancy chaired the successful $135.7 million Measure “I” Bond which brought 15 new buildings to the San Jose City Community College and Evergreen Community College campuses. These new, state of the art facilities were built on time and on budget. Nancy is determined to provide the same innovative leadership throughout her Council years.
Over the past three years, Councilmember Pyle has fought to preserve funding for District 10 in order to provide a consistent level of service to District 10 residents, businesses and community groups. Whether annually pushing for additional police officers throughout the City or finding funds to keep our children safe by maintaining the City’s crossing guard program, Councilmember Pyle is willing to fight for the safety of District 10’s families. Councilmember Pyle has also taken great strides to find innovative new methods to improve District 10. Spearheading the City’s sports fields feasibility study and launching the City’s first ever Shopping Center Improvement pilot program, Councilmember Pyle has heard the concerns of residents in District 10 and put those ideas into action.
Nancy Pyle is a graduate of LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York, and earned a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the US International University in San Diego. In 1969, Nancy moved to San Jose with her family where she served as a teacher, Community Relations Manager, and Legislative Analyst for San Jose Unified School District for 25 years. She has two adult children.
Nancy and her husband Roger have lived in Almaden and Blossom Valley for 25 years.
