Quicksilver Park

Known for its unique native wildflowers and its historical mining sites, Quicksilver is a great place for jogging or to simply reconnect with nature. The park is open from sunrise to sunset daily.

Almaden Lake Park

With warm sand, cool water, and a snack shack, Almaden Lake Park is an ideal picnic spot. Many visitors also come to relax and enjoy the recreational fishing and boating along the 32 acre shore or take a hike in the beautiful 65 acre preserve. The park is open from Sunrise to a half hour after sunset daily.

Los Alamitos Creek Trail

This romantic trail is connected to Almaden Lake Park and runs down Camden Ave. It is partly shaded and has many creek-side picnic tables.

GO SKATEBORAD

Did you know California’s largest skate park was right in your own backyard? Lake Cunningham Regional Skate Park is a great place to get on the ramps and test your limits!

Admission for a skate session is only 5$!

If you’re not ready to unleash your awesome moves on the world yet then just come out and watch some great skate competitions instead!

San Jose Sharks Hockey

The Sharks are San Jose’s most well known sports team and play regularly at the HP Pavilion.

This historic relic offers a glimpse into the final years of the wealthy widow Sarah Winchester. In 1884, she began the construction of her 160-room Victorian mansion, a project she continued until her death almost 40 years later. The many abnormalities of the house, including exquisite parquet floors, gold and silver chandeliers, and Tiffany art glass windows, have left visitors mystified and awed by the staggering amount of creativity and expense poured into each detail.

South First Fridays

South First Fridays are hosted by art vendors located on South First Street in Downtown San Jose every first Friday of the month! Come and check out all the artists in San Jose and gain an insight into the minds of many abstract and multicultural artists. The fun starts at 8pm and continues late into the evening.

Volunteer!

Whether its spring, fall, winter, or summer your community always needs help! Volunteering can be fun, so gather your friends and discover the joy of putting a smile on the face of those in need. Community service also looks great on your college and job applications, and San Jose Unified School District requires that ALL high school students complete at least 40-hours of community service. The District 10 youth page is your one spot stop for information on all the non-profit organizations serving our district!

If you do serve your community the hours will only officially count towards the San Jose Unified School District minimum community service requirement if you have the official community service form correctly filled out and signed. VOLUNTEER! Resource Area
For Teaching

Help provide creative resources for teachers in Santa Clara County by working at RAFT.

If you like to learn by doing then Raft is for you. Raft is dedicated to supporting K-12 educators that teach outside of the textbook by providing materials and ideas for creative, hands-on projects that engage students.

Requirements: Be at least 12, schedule a time to volunteer, sign youth permission slip, wear closed toed shoes and appropriate attire as Raft is a warehouse environment.

The organization’s reach is global; however, it would not be without individuals volunteering their time to their own community. Education

The importance of a higher education is that it provides opportunities for graduates which are not as common to those who only have their high school diploma.

The best advice for getting into the college of your dreams is to start the process early. Meet with your career counselor for guidance on how to tackle the process of college applications and how to ultimately choose the right college and career for you.

District 10 YAC

District 10 Youth Advisory Council

Do you want to let the people that make the laws you follow know what you think? If you have new ideas and want to explore your leadership potential join the District 10 Youth Advisory Council! Help make an impact in your community by attending the monthly meetings hosted by District 10. Help plan community events in District 10 with other passionate students who want to make a difference in our community.

What/When/Where:

Youth Advisory Council meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, starting at 6pm on the second floor of the Almaden Community Center.*

*Meetings are subject to change so be sure to call ahead and confirm that there will be a meeting to attend.

Why:

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an active group of 10-20 members that are 14-20 years of age. Members dedicate their time, talent and ideas to promote positive change in their community. YAC members identify and tackle youth issues, host special events such as district wide dances and community movie nights, as well as participate in volunteer activities that address the needs of their district residents.

Qualifications:

YAC is an inclusive group that encourages all students to participate in making District 10 a better place. The only qualifications are that you are between the ages of 14-20 and either live in or attend school in the district you wish to serve.
