District 4 Youth Advisory Council

The San Jose District 4 Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a group of youth between the ages of 14 and 18 who involve and connect the youth of San Jose in order to give them a more active voice in their community and to represent and create an empowered voice for the youth.

District 4 Specific Work Plan:

  1. To build a cohesive and effective district specific Youth Advisory Council
  2. Advise City Council , the Youth Commission, and PRNS on youth related projects and issues, working closely with the mayor and city council.
  3. Creating an awareness of the Youth Advisory Council through participation in city wide events.

If you attend Piedmont Hills High school or Independence High school, or live within the Distric 4 borders, you may become a member of the District 4 Youth Advisory Council. The next YAC meeting will take place on August 9, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Berryessa Community Center.

A Welcome Message from your District 4 Youth Commissioner - Max Chen

Hello everyone, my name is Max Chen. I am the District 4 Youth Commissioner for the City of San Jose. I am a student of at Independence High School.

I look to provide an outlet for youth to earnestly express their opinions, thoughts, and recommendations about issues that concern them. I also hope to create a robust District 4 Youth Advisory Council, with community service and city policy in mind. Since youth are the ones who will ultimately become the future leaders, it is crucial that we hit the ground running, with sufficient knowledge and awareness of the world around us, prepared to excel and succeed. I am familiar with the atmosphere and attitude of our district, and I am looking forward to cooperating with my fellow youth commissioners to build the confidence and strengthen the voices of the youth in San Jose.
