Neighborhood Cleanup Schedule for 2008

For additional information about neighborhood cleanups, please contact District 8 Council Assistant The-Vu Nguyen at (408) 535-4908 or by email the-vu.nguyen@sanjoseca.gov .

  • This clean-up event is first come first served and will be held rain or shine.  Please note that bin locations, time of delivery, and time of pickup are subject to change without notice.  This clean-up event is for household use only and not for commercial use.  This event is open to participation by District 8, City of San Jose residents only and is not open to those residents who reside other districts or the unincorporated areas of the City of San Jose.

     

    Items not accepted at clean up sites:

    • Recyclable items, such as glass, cans, newspaper, 5-gallon buckets (remove handles) or cardboard of any size.
    • Hazardous waste items (See Hazardous Waste below).
    • Wet and dry household garbage, fluids of any kind, dirt, yard waste or human waste.
    • Gas cylinders and tanks, gas-powered motors, such as lawn mowers with fluids.

     

    Important reminders:

    • For faster service, it is recommended that you bring large items early and break up and separate bulky items (i.e. wood, rubbish, metal, etc.) before you arrive at the bin site.
    • Due to the popularity of these clean-up events, expect lines at all of the bin sites and be prepared to be diverted to any available bin.
    • Flyers must be shown to the traffic and bin monitors; be prepared to provide photo identification, containing your current address, to be allowed to use the dumpsters.
    • Do not place items outside of the bins or at bin sites before they arrive; any illegal dumping will be subject to citation.
    • Be prepared to open all garbage bags for the bin monitor; clear bags are preferred.
    • For Everybody’s Safety, please follow the directions of the Traffic & Bin Monitors; they will be wearing Neon Yellow Safety Vests

     

    Other services:

    • For Large Item Pick Up Year Round Service, please call Recycle Plus at 535-3515
    • To report abandoned shopping carts in your neighborhood, please call the City of San Jose Customer Service Call Center at (408) 535-3500 and provide the exact address/location of the abandoned cart.
    • Call the Santa Clara County Household Hazardous Waste Program at (408) 299-7300 to make an appointment for FREE disposal of hazardous waste items including but not limited to paint, oil, gasoline, batteries (vehicle, alkaline and lithium), fluorescent lighting, pressurized tanks (propane, helium, fire extinguishers), railroad ties, chemically-treated wood.
