Vice Mayor Judy Chirco, an over 40-year resident of the Cambrian neighborhood
of San Jose, was elected in March of 2002 and re-elected in 2006. Judy graduated
from Camden High and went on to San Jose State University.
After starting a family, she returned to school when her
youngest son was in first grade and graduated with a Bachelor
of Science in Social Science in 1994. Together Judy and
her husband, Ed, have managed property in the City of San
Jose and elsewhere, allowing them the flexibility necessary
to become active in the community. Ed has been a coach for
the Cambrian Little League for the past twenty-five years and
a board member of the Cambrian Community Council for the
last fifteen years. Ed and Judy have two sons, Steve and Matt.Steve
graduated from Del Mar High School and spent four years
with the 82nd Airborne Division before joining the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department. Matt graduated from Prospect High School and is working as a hairstylist. She is a proud grandmother of two..
Prior to being elected to the City Council, Judy has served as a volunteer in the community, as a School Board member and as an activist. Through these activities, she has worked with families and seniors to improve access to health care, clean up our parks and provide community-based resources to a large group of residents.
As a volunteer in her sons’ Home and School Club, as well as a member of the Cambrian School Board, Vice Mayor Chirco has worked in our community’s public schools for twenty years. She is committed to working with our community to make a difference.
She has also been active in programs including the San Jose City/School Collaborative, the Children’s Health Initiative and the San Jose Homework Center Program. As a grassroots leader, working on behalf of these programs, she has felt the joy of being able to make a difference.
As a result of these vast experiences, Vice Mayor Chirco understands how city government can make a difference for our local schools, our children and our community as a whole- by keeping our parks safe and clean, while expanding programs to give the youth structured after-school activities.
For over eight years, the Vice Mayor was a Board Member of PACT (People Acting in Community Together), working to secure access to city services for the youth, initiate and maintain funding for After School Homework Centers, expand clinic funding, improve funding for affordable housing, and guarantee access to health care for all children in our community.
