ACCOUNT CLERK II (PT) (1217)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of accounting and clerical duties involving arithmetic calculations of routine difficulty. Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
- Using well-established procedures and practices, processes payment documents, maintains petty cash funds, may serve as timekeeper for small departments, accepts and records revenue, prepares statements and bills, maintains records, and processes and verifies claims.
- Batches invoices to proper accounts; posts ledgers; maintains equipment inventory lists and conducts periodic audits; prepares purchase orders and requisitions; and handles extensions, invoices, bills, vouchers and other fiscal documents, verifying their accuracy and completeness.
- Operates IBM, Mac, or compatible computers and software programs, cash register, calculator, check protector, typewriter, and other basic office machines.
- Posts, stores, computes prices, pro-rates fees, and issues permits.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the fully qualified level of accounting clerical work, differing from Account Clerk I in that the latter works in a learning capacity under immediate supervision performing routine duties of limited variety. Incumbents of this class differ from Senior Account Clerk in that incumbents of that class may supervise or perform lead worker responsibilities and perform duties with more variety, complexity, and independence.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and practices.
- Ability to perform routine arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately on adding machines or calculators.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to maintain effective working relations with others.
- Ability to type at a net rate of 35 W.P.M.
- Knowledge of and experience using IBM, Mac, or compatible computers and software programs.
Competency Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to check and balance documents, maintain departmental payrolls or accounts payable/ receivable, and receive revenue.
- Ability to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to rely on knowledge of established City accounting practices and procedures to solve simple accounting clerical problems.
Education
Graduation from high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate).
Experience
One year of experience in accounting clerical work or office work using arithmetic clerical routines.
