SENIOR GEOGRAPHIC SYSTEMS SPECIALIST (1385)
CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Plans, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of assigned staff in connection with the development, implementation, and use of geographic information systems to support infrastructure management systems.
Participates in the development of agreements with other agencies and private firms relating to geographic information.
Participates in the development and operation of a City-wide management system for policy development in the planning, operating and maintenance of sewers, pavement, municipal buildings, traffic control, parks maintenance and other infrastructure elements.
Participates in the development of procedures and computer software for data sharing or data transfer between the City's systems and those of other agencies or consultants and for improving the analysis of geographic data.
Develops procedures for use by staff in the development and maintenance of geographic information and geographic information systems.
Confers with computer hardware and software specialist to aid in diagnosing system problems and malfunctions.
Ensures the quality and timely production of computer generated maps and reports.
Recommends staffing and funding needs and methods for new components and applications.
Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technological advancements for improving the efficient use of the City's geographic information systems.
Supervises and participates in the training of users to implement new geographic information system components.
