LATENT FINGERPRINT EXAMINER SUPERVISOR (2245)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under direction, performs work of considerable difficulty in directing the activities of the Central Identification Unit of the Operations Support Services Division (O.S.S.D.); prepares and maintains the sectional budget for the CAL-ID program; coordinates the recruitment, hiring and training of new personnel and acts as liaison with other county criminal justice agencies as administrator of the local CAL-ID program.

Typical End Results Include: Ensuring that the Department’s mission and goals are met. Assuring the efficiency and quality of case work output, reports, training and staff performance. Ensuring compliance with on-going state and federal mandated training of employees. Ensuring continuity and conformance with local CAL-ID system.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   This is the highest class in the Latent Fingerprint Examiner class series. As a fully managerial position, this class has the responsibility for the direction and activities of all personnel assigned to the Central Identification Unit in the classification of Latent Fingerprint Examiner I, II, Senior Latent Fingerprint Examiner and Police Data Specialist. Incumbent reports to the Records Operations Manager.

Training and Experience

   Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent, and six (6) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as a journey level fingerprint examiner in a public jurisdiction with duties at least equal to a Latent Fingerprint Examiner II in San Jose. Two of these years must demonstrate experience in a supervisory role or in lead responsibilities for fingerprint identification personnel.

Licenses

   Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Possession of a Certified Latent Print Examiner’s Certification is required.
