CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Schedules, assigns and reviews work performed by subordinate personnel.
Supervises personnel, participates in selection, trains and evaluates subordinate personnel.
Performs and directs search, rescue, fire suppression, and other emergency activities.
Supervises and performs enforcement of park rules and regulations.
Supervises and performs responses to park visitor complaints.
Supervises and performs the preparation and presentation of interpretive and educational programs related to park services to civic groups and park visitors.
Recommends improvements and inspects conservation projects to maintain and restore natural resources to a healthy condition in City parks and undeveloped City park lands.
Prepares and reviews written reports such as police, fire, injury, activity, vandalism and visitor data reports.
Completes equipment and supply requisitions.
Provides budget input on needed personnel, equipment, supplies, and related items.
Monitors weather and fire condition reports; may recommend restricting park use.
Performs enforcement duties such as park patrol and writing misdemeanor citations.
May coordinate Ranger-Police activities.
Assumes responsibility for safety of subordinate personnel and park visitors.
Supervises and performs fee collection operations and revenue accountability and is responsible for petty cash receipts.
Operates light vehicles, radios, and other equipment necessary to perform Rangers activities.
Typical End Results Include: Providing interpretive and educational programs for City park users; providing safe, secure parks; maintaining and conserving natural features and wild life in City parks and providing emergency services within parks such as search and rescue and fire suppression.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the general principles and practices of park operations.
Knowledge of conservation principles.
Knowledge of techniques and procedures of park regulation and rule enforcement.
Ability to supervise, train and evaluate other employees.
Ability to schedule and arrange for security coverage of parks and park areas.
Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant and effective manner.
Ability to compile records and prepare reports.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.
Ability to coordinate staff effectively in emergency situations.
