CLASS PURPOSE
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Supervises and provides lead direction in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of storm and sanitary lift stations.
Conducts preventive maintenance, alignment checks and emergency trouble-shooting of various storm and sanitary lift station equipment that may include valves, pumps, siphons, grinders, force mains, vertical pumps, submersible pumps and other support equipment.
Monitors meters, gauges and other recording and measuring devices for station operational control and efficiency.
Trains maintenance work crews in the proper maintenance and repair of all storm and sanitary lift station equipment.
Maintains office records regarding required maintenance and testing schedules, frequency of repairs, confined space entry procedures, gas detection equipment and breathing apparatus usage to satisfy federal, state and local code regulations.
Coordinates and facilitates major work repair and overhaul activities that require the services of other City line departments and other outside agencies.
Establishes comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to eliminate or reduce to a minimum station down time and optimize the efficiency and performance of storm and sanitary lift stations.
Establishes comprehensive safety programs that include developing safety procedures in the use of all station and support equipment and monitoring safety practices during work hours at station sites.
Prioritizes work orders for the maintenance repair and overhaul of all assigned storm and sanitary lift stations.
Plans, assigns and evaluates all work assignments and performance of assigned crews.
Maintains spare parts inventory for routine repairs and maintenance of station equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater pumps used in sanitary and storm sewer systems.
Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and practices of manual switching operations of wastewater pump stations and gravity flow collection systems.
Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing entry into confined spaces and uses of gas detection equipment and breathing apparatus.
Knowledge of safety hazards and procedures associated with storm and sanitary lift stations and associated auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for storm and sanitary lift stations.
Ability to read and interpret sketches, plans, blueprints and diagrams relative to storm and sanitary lift station.
Ability to prepare reports and keep records of work completed, hours worked and parts, materials and supplies needed.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with other City employees, contractors, and the general public.
Ability to lift heavy weights: 20-100 pounds.
Competency Knowledges, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and ability to maintain a small spare parts inventory.
Ability to operate mobile communications equipment.
Ability to handle unusual and emergency situations to ensure trouble free operation of assigned storm and sanitary lift stations.
Ability to provide supervision, lead direction and training of storm and sanitary lift station personnel.
