CLASS SUMMARY:

   Incumbents are responsible for performing more advanced maintenance and repair work on electrical systems.  Duties might include:  serving as a lead to staff; assigning and monitoring work; providing direction; operating, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting and repairing electronic components, systems and equipment; performing inspections and confirmations on various electrical system; overseeing and monitoring the work of consultants and vendors; designing, fabricating and installing electrical systems and components; ensuring code compliance; purchasing electrical supplies; and, providing temporary power.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

   The Electrician, Senior is the second level of a three-level electrician series.  The Electrician, Senior is distinguished from the Electrician which has responsibility for performing routine electric maintenance and repair activities. The Electrician, Senior is responsible for performing more advanced maintenance and repair work and for serving as a designated lead.

Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):

   Completion of an approved apprenticeship program and two years of journey level electrician experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

   Positions in this class typically require:   climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

   Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions and intense noises.

   Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
