AIR CONDITIONING MECHANIC (3162)

CLASS PURPOSE

   Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the installation, operation, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of heating, ventilating, refrigeration/cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment. Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

   This is the fully skilled journey level class in the Air Conditioning series. Incumbents in the class perform work of moderate difficulty in the installation, operation, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of heating, ventilating, refrigerating and cooling systems and auxiliary equipment. This class differs from the next higher level class of Senior Air Conditioning Mechanic, in that incumbents of the latter class perform similar work under general supervision and also supervise Air Conditioning Mechanics.

Education

   Completion of certificate program in HVAC from a college or university.

Experience

   Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and cooling systems which are common to large buildings.
