SENIOR FACILITY SOUND & LIGHT TECHNICIAN (3230)
CLASS PURPOSE
Under
direction, performs supervisory technical services work of considerable
difficulty in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of facility
technical systems, including sound, theatrical lighting, theatrical rigging,
revenue-producing telephone communications, and various audio-visual equipment
found within the convention and cultural facilities of the Department of
Conventions, Arts, and Entertainment of the City of San Jose.
Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESULTS (The position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Coordinates technical service requirements for multiple events within specified timeframes and ensures adequate personnel and equipment resources.
Interacts with clients and problem-solves technical service requirements for a variety of events.
Ensures that building and safety policies and practices are followed by staff and contractors.
Makes recommendations regarding important personnel actions such as performance evaluations, discipline, promotion, demotion, hiring, and other matters.
Develops and implements a comprehensive maintenance program.
Makes recommendations regarding long-range technical services equipment for convention and cultural facilities.
Orders supplies and parts for repair of technical systems.
Maintains and coordinates effective working relationships with internal staff, other City staff, vendors, and contractors.
Ability to analyze equipment and staffing needs in the installation
of equipment for a variety of events
DISTINGUISHING
CHARACTERISTICS
This position is in the Facility Sound and
Light Technical Series and reports to the Event and Technical Services
Supervisor of the convention and cultural facilities.
This class differs from the Facility Sound and Light Technician in that
members of this class will supervise members of the latter class, and will
supervise the installation, maintenance, and repair of all facilities' equipment
for the convention and cultural facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles of supervision.
Knowledge of sound and light legal procedures, principles, and practices in public facilities.
Knowledge of theatrical rigging systems, including hemp, single purchase, double purchase, and chain motor systems.
Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the installation and repair of technical systems and equipment.
Ability to train, supervise, and evaluate subordinates.
Ability to interact effectively with event promoters, outside contractors, and other City departments.
Ability to read and understand technical systems blueprints.
Ability to adjust to various work shifts, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Competency Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of telecommunications equipment and practices.
Ability to analyze equipment and staffing needs in the installation of equipment for a variety of events.
EDUCATION
Completion of an AA
degree from an accredited college or university in Electronics, Engineering,
Technical Theater, or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the installation,
maintenance, and repair of sound systems, theatrical lighting systems, and
various audio-visual equipment commonly used in municipal convention and
cultural centers.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS
Additional related
college course work can substitute for two (2) years of work experience.
